Shri Ramnath Temple

Shri Ramnath Temple is 33kms from Panaji in Ponda Taluka. The origin of the shrine is immersed in mythology, which says that Rameshwar is the original abode of Lord Ramnath. Besides the main shrine of presiding deity, Lord Shiva, the Ramnath Temple has four small temples of Shri Laxminarayan, Shri Shantadurga (Sateri), Shri Betal and Shri Sidhanath. The five temples in goa together, comprise Shri Ramnath Panchyatan. The courtyard of the temple has a five storied Deepstambha or Lamp Pillar adorned with images of Hindu gods and Goddesses on its base. The annual Jatra of samsthan is celebrated with full fervor and devotion with the traditional palanquin parading around the temple carrying the idol of the deity. Navaratras is also celebrated grandly. Shri Ramnath Temple is one of first temples in Goa to build Agrashalas for devotees and visiting yatris.

Near Naugesh, you will be able to locate another temple of Ramnathi. The diety residing is the incarnation of Lord Shiva and is equally revered by Shaivites and Vaishnavites. Lord Ramnath is the form of Shiva worshipped by the Lord Rama. The temple was constructed in around 1566 AD and was renovated in 1905. The “Sabhamantapa”, however, is a recent addition.

The Sri Ramnath Samsthan was originally located at Lotulim in Salcette taluka and was shifted to its present location in Bandivadem in the16th century. Other deities worshipped in the temple are Sri Laxmi Narayan, Sri Shanteri, Sri Kamakshi, Sri Siddhinath, Betal and Kalabhairava.

This temple is situated at Bandode near Ponda and is dedicated to Lord Ramnath, an incarnation of Lord Siva. The main inner shrine has an idol of Shree Ramnathi and has four smaller shrines of Shree Laxminarayan, Shree Shantadurga, Shree Betal, and Shree Sidhnath. The five together constitute the Shree Ramnath Panchayatan. The Lingam in the temple originally came from the village of Lotulim in Salcette, and was moved to the present site in 1566 to escape the Portuguese wrath.

The temple structure was renovated The main festival centered around this temple is the “Maha Shivratri”. The Mahajans of the Temple are of Kaundinya and Vatsa gotras.in 1951.
