The Utorda beach located near the more famous Colva beach is a long and isolated strip of shiny golden sands, with its palm fringed shores. Utorda can be seen as a link between the Arrosim beach to north and the Majorda beach lying south. The beach marks long straight patches of un-spoilt soft sands. One can enjoy activities like swimming, sunbathing and leisurely walks on these beautiful beaches. With lifeguards on the watch, it is safe to enjoy a swim in its waters.
Location: South Goa
The beach shacks dotting the shores prepare some exquisite Goan dishes and serve them hot right across the beach so that one can enjoy the sumptuous food while indulging in a sunbathing experience. To the south of Majorda and north of Colva is the Utorda Beach, which has some resorts on the beachfront. A decided plus is the exotic seafood sold in local restaurants and beach shacks. You can take a auto from Dabolim airport to reach Utorda. Also, buses and taxis ply from Colva and other important places for Utorda and other places in this stretch. While here you can visit Betalbatim village. Betalbatim’s name is derived from Devachaar (a Devachaar is not necessarily a demon, but a spirit that could be benevolent or malevolent) whose temple was at Fardo Vaddo before the entire village converted to Christianity in the 16th century.
The Church Of Our Lady Of Remedios, built by the Jesuits in 1630, was reconstructed in 1807. There are some resorts in Utorda that offer good accommodation for visitors. It provides quite and relaxed atmosphere away from the usually busy beaches of Goa. Velsao beach is another nearby spot which is relatively untouched and un-spoilt and superbly complements the Utorda Beach.
